Here’s a brief description of the unitive stage of ego development from my notes:
UNITIVE
- is now fully embodying the fruits of the spiritual path
- radical, profound authenticity, with progressively lower and lower levels of personal attachment
- frequent mystical experiences, the mystical becomes the normal
- highly sensitive and attuned to intuition, likes to “keep things simple”
- consistent and abiding awareness of one’s own personal union with the “ground” of being, God, Buddha Nature, Christ Consciousness, etc.
- life becomes a profound surrender, and co-creation with God (I allow the “holy spirit” to guide and create through me)
- is able to embody radical levels of compassion, easily forgiving “unconscious people” for their evilness and selfishness
- worship
- a complete and radical acceptance of all parts of oneself and others
- able to make sense of life through many different modalities, (science, tarot, physics, Christianity, Islam, witchcraft, shamanism) all modalities of knowledge are met with an open mind and considered as potentially valuable
- uses all life experiences to “further the path of Bodhi (awakening)” (think about the advantage method)
Preoccupations:
- having fun, poetic, appreciating the eternal mystery of now
- guiding others through spontaneous embodiment , compassion, and naturalness
- cultivating genuine compassion and praying for the welfare of all sentient beings
if you’d like to learn more deeply about the 9 stages of ego development (an extremely important part of understanding the path of personal growth) then please read the attached paper.
It’s important to keep this model in mind when you’re doing self-actualization work so that you know what you’re shooting for.
Remember: getting to the higher stages requires more “deconstruction” than it does “construction.” You’re not going to “build yourself” up to the higher stages. The higher stages are more about tearing away the delusion until the only thing left is your natural shining beauty, intelligence, and goodness
